Taking your website beyond the basics
Neil Spellings
Monday 20th August 2007, 7:45pm

Neil provides a whole variety of RISC OS friendly internet solutions, including webhosting and a great deal more. This talk will focus on going beyond the basics of creating a website.

These days, there are plenty of opportunities to enhance your website. You can register your own domain for not much more than a few pounds, and have your email or website directed there. You can include interactive features in your website, or even online payment.

Likely topics include:

  • Domain registrations - what's available and how you register them
  • DNS - How it works, a brief overview
  • Email - different types of mailboxes and features available
  • Uploading your site
  • Web scripting - PHP, CGI, SSI etc
  • Other hosting enhancements: Spam filtering, virus checking, email forwarding, mailing lists, web software (forums, blogs, eCommerce).
  • To sign up for these facilities and more, see the Purley Hosting website.
