Mystery new product - WiFi HAT
Rob Sprowson, Elesar Ltd
Monday 21st October 2019, 7:45pm

In what might be a first for ROUGOL, we have a speaker returning the very next month. However this time Rob Sprowson will be wearing his Elesar HAT so will be almost unrecognisable.

Rob had hoped to be talking about this new Elesar product last month, but a flaw in one of the chips used had delayed it. He has now found a workaround for the problem and will be able to give us a demo, although he warns that the GUI still needs a bit more polish!

He will also give an update and answer questions on Prophet or any of Elesar's other products.

As this meeting is only five days before the RISC OS London Show we will also have the latest news/gossip on what you can expect to see at the show.

The mystery new product turned out to be a WiFi HAT for the Raspberry Pi. It has its own processor that contains the WiFi software (scanning for networks, authentication, encryption), bypassing the problem of RISC OS not having its own WiFi stack (yet). A GUI frontend enables browsing of the available networks, logging on, and automatic reconnection at boot. There is a review on The Icon Bar.
